Accessibility statement

Accessibility information and how to report a problem.

Village website

The website aims to meet WCAG 2.2 AA. A complete accessibility audit has not yet been completed, so compliance is not certified. To report a problem with a village page, use the website contact form, naming the page and the difficulty you encountered.

Accessibility statement

This accessibility information covers the council pages on the Kington Langley Village website and the council documents they link to.

Using these pages

Our aim is that people can read and use the council information with a keyboard, screen reader, magnification or speech recognition. The accessibility target is WCAG 2.2 level AA.

Accessibility of linked documents

Accessibility compliance is not certified. Some linked documents may be difficult to use with assistive technology. The signed 2025/26 audit return has an extractable text layer with errors. Image-only scans cannot be read as text by screen readers.

Ask for an accessible copy or report a problem

Email the Parish Clerk at klparishclerk@kingtonlangley-pc.gov.uk. Include the page or document name, its link, the problem and the format you need.

Enforcement procedure

The Equality and Human Rights Commission enforces the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018. If you are unhappy with the response to an accessibility complaint, contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS).

Documents and exemptions

The general exemption for office documents applies to files published before 23 September 2018, unless they are needed for active administrative processes. It is not a blanket exemption for all old or signed documents. A scanned signature does not remove the need for accessible content. Any other exemption or disproportionate-burden claim needs a documented assessment; none is claimed here.

Linking to a council-owned document on the previous website does not automatically make it exempt third-party content.

Preparation and review

Prepared 15 October 2026 through an editorial review of the council pages and existing accessibility notice. This was not an independent WCAG audit.

Formats screen readers can use

  • HTML web pages: the preferred format for public information, with proper headings, meaningful links, labelled tables and text alternatives for images.
  • Accessible Word (DOCX) or OpenDocument (ODT): structured headings, logical reading order, descriptive links, simple labelled tables and image alternatives. The file format alone does not guarantee accessibility.
  • Tagged, text-based PDFs: searchable text plus correct tags, reading order, document language, headings, table headers and image alternatives. A PDF with selectable text can still be inaccessible.
  • Plain text or CSV: useful for simple text or spending data when labelled clearly; complex documents also need a structured accessible version.
